Love the iconic, densely layered look of 'Mikawa Yatsubusa'? Then meet 'Mikawa Kaen,' its captivating bronze-toned sibling! It proudly shares that prized Mikawa genetics, meaning you get that same wonderful, shingle-like leaf arrangement and compact, slow-growing habit. 'Mikawa Kaen' adds its own unique flair with new spring leaves emerging in warm, bronzy hues, which can beautifully complement its green undertones into summer. Expect a lovely autumn display of oranges and reds. This is a true dwarf treasure, perfect for an up-close look in containers or small garden nooks.
* Size: Dwarf, very slow-growing, typically 3-5 ft tall.
* Uses: Ideal for containers, rock gardens, bonsai, front of border features.
* Care: Prefers morning sun with afternoon shade. Needs moist, well-drained soil. Zones 5-9.
Mikawa Kaen is an interesting Mikawa variant that leafs out with a dark green / bronze leaf color. A tendency of Kaen is to have leaves that will appear to be cupped downward and gives the tree a very unique appearance. Kaen will go fully green in the summer and will have typical Mikawa fall color of orange or red.
